As you read this, I would encourage you to set your mind to be determined to get it all. Not being greedy, just taking everything that belongs to you – all that Jesus has already paid the price for you to receive! All the blessings that are yours for the taking – healing, prosperity, peace of mind, joy, victory, grace, mercy, plus much more.
Sometimes it’s hard to stay focused on all these wonderful gifts when the media is being used by the prince of the power of the air, constantly sharing negative news about the economy, the jobless rate, and bailouts; you know, the latest headlines. If you continue listening to, or reading the news reports, you’ll find it’s hard to not give in to a spirit of fear.
We all know bad news sells better than good news. So with all the reported, so-called uncertainty in the world today, it makes you wonder where the good old days have gone. Well, guess what? The good old days are here and now! They’re right now! Stop and think about it; you’re blessed today! One thing I know for sure is that the God who is big enough to begin a good work in you, is big enough to finish it. Your best days are ahead of you, if you’re born again. This is the defining line in life – are you are born again! (See the Faith Confession page if you’ve not asked Jesus into your heart.)
Deuteronomy 28:2-14, describes the blessings of the Lord when you diligently obey Him…. “blessed in the field, blessed in the city; blessed going out, blessed coming in; blessings come on you and over take you; you’re the head and not the tail; going over and not going under; enemies that rise up against you will be defeated; blessed in your basket and in you kneading bowl; the Lord will command the blessing on your barns and everything you set your hand to is blessed and will prosper; your children will abound; and your ground will abound.”
Today is the day that we’re progressing and not regressing. We don’t have to participate in the world’s economic system of a so-called recession. We have a covenant with progression. It’s about our covenant that we have with God. God says, “If you’ll step out and do it, I’ll step with you and make it happen for you.” However, He needs something to work with.
Mark 4:15 says that Satan comes immediately to steal the seed; thw seed being the Word of God that you hear. Instead of letting the devil steal your Word or revelation, use the Word of God to enforce the devil’s defeat! I don’t know about you, but I’m going to and fro this year defeating the devil on every side; on every realm. Do you want a “new you” this year? Then it’s time to confront and overcome the devil…overcome fear. There are 365 “fear not’s” in the Bible, one for every day of the year. When Jesus came to people the first thing He said was “fear not!” When the angel appeared to Mary and told her she was going to have a son, the first thing he said was “fear not!” Fear is a demonic spirit that God’s given us authority over. You have authority to bind, rebuke resist, and release the spirit of fear and its assignment against your life. You do this with your words.
Second Timothy 1:7 in the Amplified Bible says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” The New American Standard Bible reads, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” If you want to move ahead today and be determined to have it all, you’ll have to be self-disciplined. That’s a word many of us don’t like to hear, but it’s a very liberating word. When we discipline ourselves to do what we know we should do, when we should do it, we have freedom to do those extra things we enjoy!
In Romans 8:1, we see there is no condemnation if we are in Christ Jesus. It’s the Law of Life in Christ Jesus verses the Law of Sin and Death. If we’re going to get it all, we have to overcome fear, discipline ourselves, and get excited about looking forward to our future.
Are you thankful yesterday, last week, last month or last year has ended and you have a new beginning today? His mercies are new every morning so you don’t have to wait for a new year to start over. You can start over today, or whatever day you decide to make a move when you wake up that morning! But, you’re going to have to be determined to get everything that Father God has promised you, and everything that Jesus paid the price for when He went to the cross. Determine you’re going after it. You’re going to get all the harvest; all the finances; all of the health; everything your heart desires! Why not? You’re at the beginning of a new day.
Let’s imagine your life this past year as if you’ve been sitting at a stop light waiting for the light to turn green. It turns green. God says go. You continue sitting there, waiting. I’d like to ask you today, “What shade of green are you waiting on?” What day are you waiting on to begin? What word from the Lord are you waiting on? How much more do you need? Almighty God lives on the inside of you, what are you waiting on? Is the Greater One on the inside of you, or isn’t He? He made you an over-comer in everything in your life. If we’re not over-comers, then who are we? If the Greater One doesn’t live on the inside of us, how much different are we from the world. If we’re not different from the world, who’s going to help the lost? They’re waiting for someone to rise up and show them how to live in this time when the world is getting darker every day, and CNN is painting an uglier picture every morning. They’re waiting on someone to shed some light on their circumstances. That’s where we come in, but we’ve got to be determined.
The definition of determination is this: To settle or make certain in the mind. If you’re going to have a new year with a ’new you’, it’s time to settle your mind; make it certain on what you want; or change your mind on some things. Determine that ‘I am a winner!’ I am an over-comer! I am more than a conqueror! Not just a conqueror, but more than a conqueror! I didn’t just defeat and conquer that thing, I’m more than a conqueror! God never fulfills half a promise. He’ll take you all the way and give you the real deal.
Sometimes you’ll get your scriptures and be confessing and standing on them for your healing or your finances. If you’re single you may be believing God for your mate, or as a parent you may be believing God to move on your child and deliver them from wrong relationships and habits. As you make your confessions, you see things getting a little better so you slack up a bit. You think ‘at least it’s getting better.’ You get a little raise and a little more money is coming in so you can go out to eat a little more often.
Do you know why God wants you wealthy? If you don’t know why God wants you to be wealthy, it’s easy to stop praying when you get your needs met; when you have a little more in your checkbook than what you’re writing out, and some will quit right there. But if you determine to be wealthy so you can say, “Do you need your light bill paid? Do you need new tires on your car? Do you need a new stove? How about your car payment?” then you will have a continual flow of resources.
How much attention do you think it would get if you were trying to minister to the family or single parent who’s going through a difficult time and they say something to you about their finances. I’m not talking about someone conning you, because you’ll know by the unction of the Holy Spirit when someone really needs help. How much do you think it would draw their attention to the goodness of God if you would say, “Here’s the money for your car payment. God wants me to pay for it this month. God just wants me to tell you He loves you and He wants to use me to do it!”
Let’s look at Paul as our example. In 1 Corinthians 2:1-2 we read, “And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” One of the first things you need to do if you want to be a ‘new you’ is determine not to follow the coarse of your mind, or in other words, reasoning. If anybody was skilled in the Word of God, it was Paul. Very trained by one of the greatest teachers of his time, Paul sat at the feet of a man named Gamaliel, one of the highest scholars of his time. Paul knew the Word inside out, up and down. He was a Pharisee when it came to the Word of God, or the Law.
Paul says it again in Philippians 3:3 when he says, “For we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh, although I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more.” He goes on to tell why he could trust in his knowledge, or pedigree. This was his resume. In verse five he says, “Circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless.” He knew all the right things to do, and all the right things to say according to having righteousness by the Law. But, he said, “I’ll know everything I need to know about the Word, or about the Law, but I determined not to know anything but Christ and Him crucified.” In other words, he’s saying, “I determine not to let my knowledge of the Word get in the way of what the Holy Ghost wants to do in my life.” We need to have the Word in us, and we need to study the Word, but when it comes to making a choice or a decision, we need to be determined that we’re not going to follow the course of our mind and what we know. If we depend only on ourselves, we’ll filter out the Holy Spirit.
Paul said, “I determine to know nothing. I determine with all of my head knowledge, I’m not going to follow my mind. I determine to know nothing except Jesus and Him crucified.” In other words, what Jesus did when He was crucified was enough. You have to determine, or settle that in your mind, that when Jesus was crucified, was that enough to pay for your healing? Was it enough to pay for your financial breakthrough? You’ll have to determine that within yourself because if you don’t, what you know and see in the natural about what season it is in your ife, or what you know in your head about what that spot looks like on your body, or what you know looking at your checkbook balance… – if you don’t determine in your heart that what Jesus did once and for all when he died on the cross and rose from the grave was enough, then you’ll let your head begin to talk to you. You’re the only one that can determine what Jesus did was enough for you. God can’t determine it for you. I can’t determine it for you. You have to determine once and for all that what Jesus did for you is enough. If what He did, the price He paid, was enough; we don’t have to pay the price again. We don’t have to suffer loss, sickness, poverty, or any of the things listed in Deuteronomy 28:15-58.
Once you determine in your heart that Jesus paid it all, it leaves no doubt when questions come up leaving no opportunity for doubt. Decide today; settle it in your heart. Don’t listen to tapes and decide. Don’t read books and decide. Get with God and decide. You’ll determine what Jesus did is enough. It’s enough for me to walk in divine health and prosperity. It was enough because the Bible says “He became poor that I could be made rich.” That was enough. That settles it. Let the Word of God be the final authority in your life.
That’s what Paul said, “Everything I’ve ever learned, I determined not to go there.” It’s not more knowledge that you need. You may think, ‘if I just know more.’ And yes, we do need to keep growing. We do need to keep listening to CDs, reading the right books, and putting the Word of God in our heart, and keeping it in our heart. As far as looking for that certain amount of knowledge – just getting something, one more thing – that’s not what we need. What you need to do is get alone with God and let the knowledge you’ve already accumulated drop down in your heart. Percolate the knowledge you’ve already got and let it turn into determination.
As you read this it sounds great. You know your spirit man is saying “I knew that, I know that’s right.” Something on the inside of you rises up and says “I know that’s right” when you hear a message of faith, or you hear the Word of God, because that’s what you were created to do. When your spirit man hears the Word of God, he’ll respond. He’ll rise up on the inside of you and say, “Yes, I know that’s right!”
But what about tomorrow or next week after you’ve laid this down? Will you go back to your old routine of life, and will you even stop to think about what you’ve read? Will you mediate on it? If not, it will just lay dormant and then when the enemy raises his ugly head and tries to cause all chaos to break loose against you and your family, you’ll forget the little nuggets of how to improve yourself, your marriage, how to get back on track, stay on track, come up higher, be more than what you are right now. You’ll let go of the messages of hope and fulfillment for the coming year and beyond. Messages that tell you, for example, that you can have days of heaven on earth. Do you know that’s one of God’s promises to you? If you realize you aren’t seeing days of heaven on earth in your life; what you’re seeing is not right, you can say, “Bless God, this has to change!”
When you don’t see changes, you’ll be tempted to have a pity-party. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, spend some time with the Holy Spirit. Listen to Him; when He rises something up on the inside of you – take that word, write it down, and begin to meditate it. Let’s say you want to experience those days of heaven on earth you were just reading about because that’s one of God’s promises to you. With that in mind you can say, “Yes, Lord, I receive days of heaven on earth. I’ll have a marriage like no other. I believe I receive that in my life today. I believe you intend for me to have 12 good months, not two good months, and three of chaos, and then four behind on my bills and then finally get caught up and here comes Christmas.” NO! That’s not God’s plan for you! But, if you don’t meditate the Word, when something rises up against you, guess what’s going to come up from the inside you — fear, anxiety, TV shows you’ve been watching and everything else.
My pastor’s wife explained it to me this way: “We need meditation that will bring about a determination which will result in a manifestation.” In other words, what we meditate on will manifest in our lives. A good place to begin meditating the Word of God is in Deuteronomy 28:1-14 as I mentioned early. In Deuteronomy 30:19, God calls heaven and earth to witness against us that He sets, life and death and blessing and cursing before us every day, and then He tells us to choose life instead of death. It’s so simple, He’s rigged it for us!
What about the four friends that brought a man on a bed to Jesus. Everybody needs four crazy friends like that who will be determined to help you get what you want. Why do you think that man got healed? It was because those four friends had determined in their heart that they were not quitting until he got his healing. They determined. It had nothing to do with Jesus, He’s always willing to heal. The healing power of God is always flowing to you. It was their determination that brought about a manifestation. You need to get determined that you’ll not do without what He’s promised you!
When you get a revelation of the Word, it will change you and your circumstances. It brings a radical heart change when you get determined to get everything God has for you. It’s a continual work in progress so you can’t stop and settle for anything less than God’s very best for you and your life. It’s not good enough to just settle along the way. You have to be the one to determine that it isn’t good enough. Don’t let up until you get everything God has for you and your family so you can live in victory. You need to be determined to get it all. If you can look at your life and say, “Yes, that’s God,” then you can say you had an answered prayer. But if you aren’t walking in everything you believe God has for you, then you aren’t there yet so you don’t quit or let up!
If you want to be that ‘new you’, be determined to get everything God has for you and don’t settle for less. We have to be determined! Determine that ‘I’m getting mine! I’m not going another year without it.’ What are some things that God told you he would do for you? How much increase do you need? How many of your friends are you believing God will change their lives? We have to be determined that we’re going to get it. It’s not just going to happen, because we have an enemy that’s not going to roll over and play dead. He’s defeated, but he doesn’t want you to know it. The day you realize that he’s already defeated is the day he’s dreaded all his life.
Let’s go back to Paul as an example for your next task of becoming a ’new you’. In 2 Corinthians 2:1 he says, “But I determine this within myself, that I would not come to you again in heaviness.” To be a new you, determined you’re not going to be moved and led by your emotions. Paul said, “I determined I wasn’t coming to you in heaviness.” I determined — not my circumstance, not my situation, not my husband, not my momma, not my daddy, not my children, not what’s going on, but “I determined I was not going to be in heaviness.” In other words, I’m not going to let depression get on me, I’m not going to let worry and cares get on me. I determined it. He didn’t say he didn’t have opportunities – he was beaten, left for dead, and shipwrecked (more than once) – he had plenty of opportunities to let heaviness get on him. But he said, “I determine that I’m not going to come to you in heaviness.”
Every time you let heaviness get on you, it’s going to effect whoever you’re around. Heaviness affects more than just you. If you’re moody – up one minute and down the next – it affects your children, your husband, and everyone you come in contact with. Don’t be moody. Some people use the excuse of “I’m just not a morning person.” That really doesn’t fly if Jesus lives in you because He’s full of peace at 5o’clock in the morning. And it works for those early to bed, early to rise folks, too. He’s full of peace at 11:30 at night. Your attitude shouldn’t be determined by what time it is. I understand that some people’s personality and some people’s bodies function better in the morning, some people function better at night, but you don’t need to let that be an excuse for you to be rude to people; even in the morning if you don’t have six cups of coffee! I know I’m not the only one who’s used that excuse, but I had to ask myself what I was going to do if they stopped making caffeine? What I’m saying is, we need to be determined that we’re going to be like Jesus no matter what time it is.
You’ll have to make this decision because no one can decide, or choose, your attitude for you except you. No circumstance or anything the devil brings in your path should affect your attitude. Only you can choose how you’ll respond to challenging situations. Jesus won’t even choose your attitude for you. You choose to be full of peace, full of joy. I choose. You choose. You determine you’re not going to let heaviness get on you, because that may be the very day someone needs you.
Paul said, “I determine.” You need to determine your attitude. They need you to be stable. Wife, you need to be determined that you’re not going to be led by your emotions because your husband needs to see you’re stable. Momma, you need to be determined that you’re not going to be led by your emotions because your kids need to see that you’re stable in a world that’s so wishy-washy. They don’t need to see you panic every time one of them has a 103 degree fever. You preach to them “By His stripes you are healed. Say that for Momma, baby.” And then when they get a fever or something, you start panicking. They don’t need to see that. They need to see you stable. If you don’t decide you rule your emotions, and they don’t rule you; you’ll be up and down and crossways and everything else; if you don’t decide – if you don’t determine that you rule your emotions. You’re going to have to get stable. You’re going to have to be fixed in knowing that the Word of God is enough, you have to determine that in your heart. If you don’t decide the Word, is enough, you’ll start looking for another answer.
We’re going to look at something else you need to do if you want to be a ‘new you’, and keep in mind that it’s not always about a formula. Just because something worked once doesn’t mean that’s how you’re supposed to do it every time. The Word will always work, but just because you stood on a certain verse for victory doesn’t mean that’s the same verse God’s going to direct you to the next time you need breakthrough. Sometimes the Holy Ghost wants to give you a “fresh, right now” verse to stand on. You can’t always just go back and pick up something you used to know. You have to be determined that whatever the Holy Spirit tells you to do, you’re going to do it because “I’m determined I’m going to get mine!”
If you really want to change and become a ‘new you’ today, this is a key ingredient. In Philippians 3:10, Paul says, “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection…” And in the Amplified it says, “[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him…” You need to have a determined purpose within you to say “I determine today that I’m going to know Him in a better way than I did yesterday.”
Do you want everything to fall into place in your life? Determine to know Him more intimately. Get a determination to experience more of His glory, more of His power, experience more of the anointing of God in your life. You’re going to have to be more determined and set your mind to “whatever I have to do, I’ll receive more from God today.” You’ll need to determine it; no one else can determine it for you.
Paul said, “My determined purpose is to know Him.” Paul wrote three-fourths of the New Testament and still he said, “I feel like I don’t really know Him like I want to know Him.” He said his determined purpose was to know Him more. My determined purpose, what I determine, is that more than anything else in my life, I want to know Him more. Not just know more about Him, but to know Him more.
A lot of people know about God just like the children of Israel. They saw Him split the Red Sea, they saw all the miracles, signs, and wonders that He performed, and they said, “Oh! He’s a God of power! We’ve seen His power!” They saw what He did, and that produced fear in their life — the wrong kind of fear — because in their mind they were afraid that if He wiped out a whole Egyptian army, He may do the same thing to them if they didn’t act right. What they saw as God destroying an Egyptian army, Moses saw it as love because He spent time with God. Moses saw it as God’s love protecting him. Why did Moses see it differently? It’s because he spent time with Him. Psalm 103:7 says, “He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel.” Moses knew God’s heart; he knew what made Him do what He did.
I don’t want to continue living at the same level I’m at right now. I want to know why God does the things He does. I want to know His heart. He’s not trying to hide it from us. He wants us to know, but we’re going to have to be determined to draw up next to Him.
Why do you think John wrote about love… “And if you abide in me and My Words abides in you, you’ll ask anything you want to and I’ll give it to you.” This is what John said about Jesus because he was the one that was always laying right up next to Him. He loved Him. He didn’t just love Him like the rest of the disciples did, he was in love with Him. There’s a difference between loving someone and being in love with them. A lot of times you can look at people that have been married for a long time and see they love each other but they stopped being in love a long time ago. They need to stir that back up. How do you stir up love that doesn’t feel like it’s in love any more? You start doing what you used to do when you first fell in love with them. Be determined to fall back in love again. Not just with Jesus but with one another.
You should be more determined today to know Him better because according to the Word of God there will be seducing spirits, lying spirits, and people will do things in the name of other so-called gods and it will look like God, to the point you don’t know the difference. You’ll need to know God if you’re going to know the difference. The Holy Spirit will bear witness with your spirit and you’ll know whatever they’re doing isn’t right. If you don’t spend a lot of time with Him, your head will start playing tricks on you and you’ll be deceived.
My determined purpose today is that I want to know His heartbeat every day. I want to know Him to the point that when I get up every day I ask Him, “Lord, what’s on your heart today? Not what’s on my agenda, but what do you want to do today? After all, You’re the only reason I’m on this planet.” My determined purpose is to know Him in such a way that I feel comfortable asking Him for favors. If you know someone well enough, you don’t have any problem asking them for a favor. The only way you get to know people is by spending more time with them. God and His Word are one, so the more time you spend in the Word, the better you’ll know Him, and the more change you’ll see in your life.
To be the change you want for a ’new you’, you need to be determined that “everything God has promised me I am going to get it.” Determine you will not quit. Determine to have the attitude of “I refuse to lose!” When you get that attitude, it doesn’t matter what comes, you know it isn’t over until ’I win!’…completely, totally. Total restoration manifested.
The definition for restoration, which is what God has promised us, is this: When it’s all said and done, there’s no evidence that it ever took place. No evidence that it ever happened to you; none whatsoever. That’s restoration! You may have stopped short of being totally restored just because you’re doing better than what you were doing before. That still isn’t good enough! You need to ask the Holy Spirit to give you a determination to get everything Jesus paid for when He went to the cross. His plan is that you don’t have to work for it; you just have to learn to receive it by faith. Release your faith right now and say, “I believe I receive everything Jesus paid the price for me to have.” Be determined to get it all. Don’t leave anything on the table.
To enjoy the ‘new you’ forget your past. It’s gone, you can’t change it, and you don’t need to let it keep you from your great future. Face your fears and conquer them, or they’ll continue to haunt you and overcome you. Don’t go on into another day with your same old habits and mind sets. If you’re tired of chocolate cake, change the ingredients! If you don’t change, you won’t have change. Don’t continue to do the same thing if it’s not working. Be the change you want to see. Little changes will create big dividends. Be determined to yield yourself to the Word of God, renew your mind – get His mindset. Yield yourself to God and ask Him what He wants you to do everyday. Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, Satan shudders and says, “Oh No…. she’s awake!” Be determined to get everything God has for you because He paid the price for you to have it. The good old days are here and now!!!
